Rooms and ballot

If you want a room, you can see all our vacancies on this website. For each room the rent to be paid, the number of co-dwellers and the date of acceptance are mentioned. If you have registered at SJHT you can show your interest in any of our rooms on the internet, for which you need a login number and a password. After you have informed us of your choice, you will receive an automatically generated email that tells you how to get in touch with the group. In order to be shown around and to be introduced you are to get in touch with either the tenants or SJHT. Most dwelling groups vote by ballot. This means that all the dwellers together will nominate a new co-dweller. So you may have visited a number of rooms before being elected.

Independent units

For the assignment of independent accommodation the registration date is the determining factor. For an apartment in Hengelo or Enschede the average waiting period is 8-10 months. Assignment depends on your position on the waiting-list. When you are heading this list you will get a personal offer, by telephone, by email or by post. Once you have been offered an independent unit, you can get in touch with the leaving tenant to be shown around. After this you contact SJHT to indicate whether or not you accept the accommodation. You can refuse twice. After a third refusal your registration time expires, which means that you land at the bottom of the waiting-list. If you do not react upon an offer your registration will be removed. You can always indicate a preference for a certain building, but this may lengthen the waiting-term.
